15 March deadline for Aadhaar-linked LPG subsidy

Good news for the residents of Hyderabad is that the deadline for Aadhaar-linked LPG cylinder has been extended to 15 March 2013 from the earlier date of 15 February 2013. An official reported to say that people can now provide their Aadhaar number to the LPG cylinder distributors and the banks till 15 March. Earlier it was announced that people have to submit their Aadhaar details by 15 February in order to continue availing LPG subsidy directly into their bank accounts by linking it to with their Aadhaar number. After this announcement a mad rush was seen at the enrolment centres and news also came of clashes taking place at few camps.

  This implementation is to be done in accordance with the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) scheme which the government has already launched from January 1 in many different districts of the country. N Kiran Kumar Reddy, chief minister, Andhra Pradesh also supported the extension of the deadline date earlier after observing the chaos at the camps. The scheme will now be implemented in 5 districts of the state from 15March viz. Hyderabad, Ranga Reddy, East Godavari, Chittoor and Anantapur. Once this implementation occurs then the subsidy amount of the LPG cylinders will be directly transferred into the bank accounts of the beneficiaries which will be linked with their 12-digit Aadhaar number. Another relief for the people is that if they have not received their Aadhar card yet then they can use the E-Aadhaar letter by downloading it from the website.

 Another clarification that was announced is that 15 March is not an ending day of enrolment and the enrolment process will continue even after 15 March. However, the member of the family on whose name the LPG connection is taken must undergo through the Aadhaar enrolment process in order to access subsidy benefits on the LPG cylinders. The other family members need not to take any panic because they can enrol themselves later on for UID.
